Speaker: Prof. Anthony D. Okely

Abstract

UOW is young, dynamic and innovative, and has become a benchmark for Australia’s new generation of universities. The quality of teaching and research features prominently in national and international rankings, and among the top one per cent of universities in the world. UoW is recognised for delivering impactful research that drives positive change. UOW ranks 6th among the world’s universities for social and economic impact in the THE Impact rankings, which are benchmarked against the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.

Through his talk, Prof.Tony Okely will open the windows of collaboration opportunities between Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities University of Wollongong (UoW) and the Institute for Population and Social Research Mahidol University. Several clusters from both institutions are identified to share similar objectives and research areas:

  1. Population well-being and environment cluster. Both IPSR-MU and Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities UoW shared similar interest in this research area. POWERLab UoW aims to enhance understandings of how people and equity orientated changes in urban environments can enable population wellbeing and human flourishing across the life course. The research covers the topic of obesity, type 2 diabetes, dementia and loneliness – which linked to IPSR population health and environment cluster and also population aging.
  2. Research method cluster. UOW Data and Decision Science Initiative (DDSI) is developed from a review of their capacity in “Big Data” and health informatics. This aligned to IPSR research method cluster.
  3. Culture, Environment, Society and Space: ACCESS Australian Centre for Culture, Environment, Society and Space integrates analysis of environment, culture, society and space. This is aligned with Society, Population and Family Changes cluster, and also Sexuality, Gender, Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS cluster.

We cordially invited researcher, faculty members and IPSR family to attend his session, and explore the potential collaboration and strategies for the benefit of both institutions.

Moderator: Dr. Dyah Anantalia Widyastari
