Dementia: One of Major Concerns among Ageing Population

Dementia: One of Major Concerns among Ageing Population

ABSTRACT

Health condition of the elderly becomes a major concerned in the aged society. The main causes of death and illness have been dominated by chronic diseases. Such these chronic diseases as Alzheimer and other dementias are more common in elderly population. They are associated with mortality, disability and long term care. Moreover, they also affect quality of life and also cause stigma and social isolation.

However, studying about the prevalence of dementia still has many limitations, especially for Thailand. There are different prevalence rates of dementia in each study. These variations of prevalence were the results of varying conceptualizations of disorders, different criteria used, different methodologies and measurements, and different populations studied.

I would like to invite you to join my idea of how to study dementia in Thai older persons. Some parts of my literature reviews will be presented. Most importantly, I am confident that your comments and suggestions will be very useful for me to improve my idea of such studying.
