Burden among caregivers of dementia and nondementia older persons

Abstract

As Thailand has entered into the aged society and will become a completed aged society in 2021, most existing scholars have focused on the older person. There is less interest in research into caregiver of older people, and rarely carry out at the community level in Thailand. Caregiver is the invisible backbone of health care system. There is the key to successful care of older persons, particularly to those with functional limitation. If caregiver faces with the physical and emotional, social, and financial problems, this caregiver burden would affect the well-being of both caregiver and the older person who received care. In this seminar, the presenter would like to present the concept paper on caregiver burden. The study attempts to explore the differences in caregiver burden among caregiver of older persons with dementia and those with non-dementia under the different socio-demographic determinants and other related factors affecting on the burden. Suggestions and comments from attendees would be appreciated and greatly help to continually develop for future dissertation
