Successful Aging In Thailand: A Comparison Of Rowe And Kahn’s Model Among Three Different Age Groups

In this seminar, I would like to show my progress on my research entitles: “successful aging in Thailand: A comparison of Rowe and Kahn’s model among three different age groups”. This research aims to 1) examine the components in Rowe and Kahn’s model of successful aging as applied to Thai older adults who are young-old (60-69), old-old (70-79), and oldest-old (80 and over), 2) explore importance of the dimensions in the Rowe and Kahn’s model according to age cohort in Thailand, 3) determine the extent to which variables in the model predicted SA focused on the components of Rowe and Kahn’s model, and 4) compare the model predicted SA between the components of Rowe and Kahn’s model among the three different older age groups in Thailand. The study is based on the Survey of Older Persons in Thailand of The National Statistical Office (NSO), 2011, (n = 24,433). Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were used to test the successful aging model. The three domains of successful aging in Rowe and Kahn’s model appear to be applicable to Thai older persons. Continuing engagement with life was the domain most strongly associated with successful aging.
