Abstract
Nowadays, modernity is the popular issue not only developed countries but also developing countries. It effects to happen the socio-economic development, social-cultural changes and the demographic components changes. Modernity is end quality of being modern and it can be analyzed social modernity (industrialization, urbanization, modernization, civilization and globalization) and individual modernity (the attitudes, values, motivations and behaviors). Globally, average fertility rates for 2010 to 2015 declined to an average of 2.5 children for every woman. Most of the researchers mainly focus on impact of modernity on fertility decline among developed countries. There are a very few studies look the impact on modernity on fertility decline among developing countries. However, Myanmar is still the developing country, it has been faced the total fertility rate declines from 4.73 to 2.29 children per woman during 1983 and 2014. The main aims of this study are to find out the effecting modernity characteristics to marital status, age of first marriage and age of first childbearing in Myanmar by using cross-sectional secondary data from Myanmar Demographic Health Survey (2015-16). This study will focus on many modernity factors related to marital status, age of first marriage and age of first childbearing at individual level, household level and community level. The study hypothesizes that there are different modernity characteristics effecting on marital status and age of first marriage among gender (male and female) and among rural and urban residence as well as there are different modernity characteristics of women effecting on age of first birth among rural and urban residence. The benefits can be gained for this study can point to Myanmar government to consider about population policy, plan and strategy that needs to provide.
