Abstract
The so-called ‘LGBT’ issue has been in fashion since 2015 in Japan. This presentation explores what this phenomenon means in decreasing birth rate, marriage rate, belief in romantic love, aging population, increasing numbers of households and non-conventional styles of ‘family’ coupled with neo-liberal cum ultra-right wing political economy. In short, it questions whether the recognition of ‘LGBT’ rights epitomised in same-sex marriage is really an advancement of human equality and dignity or not.
