ABSTRACT
The transportation development have brought more choices of travel mode particularly land transportation. Moreover, the number of vehicles and also passenger in Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR) have increased in two centuries. In addition, the previous studies on commuting patterns focused only in Bangkok, while most of social and economic development policies is exactly concentrated in Bangkok and its vicinity. Therefore, it is important to study and analyses on time, mode and direction of commuting in BMR. Moreover, the results of this study can be the valuable data and information for policy makers to design and provide some solutions that have highly effective to solve the terrible traffic congestion in Bangkok Metropolitan Region.
Therefore, this study aims to gain more knowledge on commuting patterns in BMR and the results are expected to support some data and information for the government agencies who take responsibilities to set up the policy on land transportation, traffic congestion, and commuting. Furthermore, they can provide public transportation services efficiently. Consequently, the objectives of this study are: to explore the commuting direction in BMR, to investigate family ties factor, dependent member and household ownership, effect on the commuting patterns in BMR, to study on the effect of location of villages on commuting patterns in BMR and to examine the relationship among demographic, family and community factors on commuting patterns in BMR.
