เมื่อวันที่ 12 มกราคม 2568 สถาบันวิจัยประชากรและสังคม มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล เปิดเผย “สถานการณ์ประชากรไทย ปี 2569” ชี้ชัดว่า ประเทศไทยกำลังก้าวเข้าสู่จุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญของโครงสร้างประชากร จากปรากฏการณ์ “เกิดน้อย อายุยืน และแรงงานหดตัว” อย่างรวดเร็ว จนกำลังจะเข้าสู่ สังคมสูงวัยระดับสุดยอด (Super Aged Society) คือมีผู้สูงอายุ 60 ปีขึ้นไปมากกว่าร้อยละ 28 ภายในเวลาไม่ถึง 10 ปีข้างหน้า พร้อมเน้นย้ำว่า วิกฤตประชากรครั้งนี้ไม่ใช่ทางตัน หากแต่เป็นโอกาสสำคัญในการ “ปฏิรูปคุณภาพคน” และวางนโยบายระยะยาวเพื่อความมั่นคงของประเทศ
