Monitoring and Evaluation Training in Migrant Public Health Program

Between 22-26 May 2023, the Institute for Population and Social Research at Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Mahidol Migration Center (MMC-JRU), the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, and the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies Mahidol, organized the Monitoring and Evaluation Training in Migrant Public Health Program. The training event took place at room 2106, Training Building, Sian Institute of Health Development, Mahidol University. The program was funded by the International Relations Division of Mahidol University and was honored to have Prof. Emeritus Dr. Aphichat Chamratrithirong, Senior Advisor at the Institute for Population and Social Research, deliver the opening remarks. The training featured lectures by faculty members of the institute, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amara Soonthornthada, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirinan Kittisuksathit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sudarat Musikawong, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chalermpol Chamchan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manasigan Kanchanachitra, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Pojjana Hunchangsith. These speakers provided lectures to 22 participants, which consisted of students from the Institute for Population and Social Research, the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, and the Institute for Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University, as well as personnel from external agencies. The training program aimed to provide participants with an understanding of the health situation of migrants in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on migrant workers in Thailand. It also aimed to teach the basics of monitoring and evaluating initiatives for public health programs and to equip participants with the knowledge to design a framework for such programs. Participants were encouraged to adopt appropriate qualitative and quantitative measures to develop public health programs in migrant communities.
