Progress report “Determinants and Consequences of Childhood Overweight: Health Status and School Achievement in Thailand”

Abstract
 
Since 1991, the rising prevalence of overweight Thai children from 5 % to 15.6%  is  due to emerging childhood overweight in Thailand.   Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate determinants of children overweight that are related to school-aged children both health status and school achievement.  Data were analyzed the determinants of parental and environmental factors that related to child factors, affecting on child weight status ,health status and school achievement , explored the consequences of both health status and school achievement of overweight Thai children and analyzed the significantly different child, parental, and environment determinants affecting on childhood overweight in Thailand . By employing data from the project on The Fourth National Health Examination Survey of Thai Population Report, that was  collected 4,821 children who lived in both municipal and non-municipal areas and aged between 6 and 12 years old  in during 2008 to 2009.The multiple logistic regressions was implemented to analysis the relationship among factors.  This progress report presentedonly some basic characteristics of the study samples  which  will  be  divided by  municipal areas  comparing  to non-municipal  areas . The results noticeably showed that child ,parental and environmental characteristic of samples living in municipal area hadhigherlevel than those samples living in non-municipal area particularly daily physical activity, time watching TV , playing computer ,parents’ education and occupation , household income , food supply , facility for physical activity and computer game .
