On February 27, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Chalermpol Chamchan, Director of the Institute for Population and Social Research at Mahidol University, along with Associate Professor Dr. Piyawat Katewongsa, Assistant Professor Dr. Dyah Anantalia Widyastari, and a group of researchers from the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Center at Mahidol University, participated in signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) titled “Project to Develop a Database of Situations and Behavior Regarding Movement to Promote Early Childhood Development in Thailand.” The signing ceremony took place at the meeting room of Sunee Grand Hotel in Ubon Ratchathani Province. Representatives from the Physical Activity Division for Health, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, and Thai Health Promotion Foundation were also present.
This project aims to drive policies and measures to promote health among early childhood groups, aligning with the 20-year national strategy to enhance the intelligence, development, and growth of Thai children. Emphasizing the importance of the early childhood period in brain development, the project emphasizes providing appropriate developmental stimulation through various activities such as play, storytelling, singing, and drawing.
These activities help develop children’s executive function (EF) brain skills, laying a strong foundation for their future. The memorandum of understanding signifies coordination and cooperation between government agencies, civil society, and network partners to promote early childhood development in Thailand according to international standard principles. It involves creating a monitoring mechanism and developing information systems to inform policies and measures that foster appropriate development in Thai early childhood children, contributing to the country’s further development.
