Field visit to ‘Kin Sabaijai Market’ area, to learn the mechanisms of producing organic agricultural products and distributing them to consumers

Between October 19 and October 22, 2023, the project of investigate fairness in the food supply chain using a green market mechanism. The project aims to research food management systems for health throughout the supply chain and implement measures to reduce access to unhealthy food for the Thai population. This initiative is supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation and is led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jongjit Rittirong, Deputy Director of the Curriculum Quality Development Institute for Population and Social Research at Mahidol University. Dr. Pattraporn Chuenglertsiri and Ms. Pimonpan Nitnara, who are researchers on the project, visited the Eat Sabaijai Market in Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. They sought to understand the mechanisms of producing organic agricultural products and distributing them to consumers. The research team gained insight into the operation of the comfort food market, its objectives, and the outcomes of selling chemical-free agricultural products through interviews with the market manager and group discussions with farmers and product sellers within the market. The Sabaijai Eating Market serves as a trading platform for agricultural products and chemical-free processed foods, including local vegetables, seasonal produce, fresh fruits, chili paste, papaya salad, and khao tan. It operates every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the G Floor of Sunee Department Store.
