Between September 5th and 7th, 2023, a project focused on studying fairness in the food supply chain with a green market mechanism took place. This project aims to research food management systems for health throughout the supply chain and explore measures to reduce access to unhealthy food for the Thai population. It is supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation and led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jongjit Rittirong, Deputy Director of Curriculum Quality Development at the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University. The research team, including Dr. Pattraporn Chuenglertsiri and Ms. Pimolpan Nitnara, both researchers on the project, visited the Organic Agriculture District in Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province, to understand the production mechanisms of organic agricultural products and how these products are distributed to consumers. During their visit, the research team learned about the process of promoting organic agriculture and the purpose of their operations. They also discussed their expectations and the outcomes related to the sale of chemical-free agricultural products. This information was gathered through interviews with market managers and group discussions with farmers and product sellers within the market. The Organic Agriculture District serves as a platform for the exchange of agricultural products and chemical-free processed foods, including local vegetables, seasonal vegetables, fresh fruits, coconut water, fruit juices, and Thai desserts. This market is open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
