On August 17, 2023, Associate Professor Dr. Sutthida Chuanwan, a Lecturer at the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, along with Ms. Kanchana Thianlai and Ms. Wipaporn Jaruruengpaisan, led a research team as part of the Quality of Life Development Project by the Local Administrative Organization. This project received research funding support from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) through the Foundation of Thai Gerontology Research and Development Institute (NRCT). They organized an activity called “Buddy Wai Kao, We Can Do It” in collaboration with the SAO Ngiw Rai, Nakhon Pathom Province.
The activity aimed to create elderly buddy pairs who would engage in community activities together. They focused on connecting socially active individuals with those who are homebound. Additionally, the participants were encouraged to create herbal balsams named “Old School Elder Balm” and “Weaving Small Baskets from Coffee Mugs.” In the afternoon, a knowledge-sharing session took place on the topic of “Physical Activity in the Elderly: The Importance of Exercise and Age-Appropriate Exercises.”
This session was facilitated by speakers from the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Center (TPAK), and it saw the participation of over 50 individuals. Ms. Julaluck Inkaew, a student from the Master of Arts in Population and Social Research (Thai Program), also took part in these activities as part of her social behavioral course.
