The Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, organized the 17th National Academic Conference, “Population and Society 2023,” focusing on the topic of “Multidimensional Dimensions in One Lifetime.” The conference aimed to disseminate knowledge on research related to population and society, considering the life course that occurs within a single lifetime. The event took place on Friday, June 30, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Shiva Room, 3rd floor, Asawin Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok.
During the conference, a special lecture on the topic “Welfare Throughout the Life of Thai People” was delivered by Dr. Somkiat Tangkitvanich, the President of the Thailand Development Research Institute, along with members of the Mahidol University. Additionally, a round table discussion on the theme “Different Dimensions in Perspectives of Life Paths” was led by esteemed individuals, including Ms. Supatra Nacapew, National Human Rights Commissioner; Prof. Dr. Piriya Pholphirul, Director of Centre of Development Economics Studies; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adisak Plitponkarnpim Director of the National Institute for Child and Family Development, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aree Jampaklay, Director of the Institute for Population and Social Research Mahidol University. The analysis during this discussion covered perspectives on life paths from various dimensions, encompassing human rights, economics, medicine and public health, as well as research and development. The session was expertly moderated by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Manasigan Kanchanachitra.
Furthermore, the conference featured the presentation of 11 academic articles under three distinct topics: 1) Family and Parenting, 2) Lifestyle Behaviors, and 3) Living Arrangement and Environment. These articles provided insights into factors that can significantly impact individuals’ lives over the long term. The conference’s life-course perspective allowed for a comprehensive understanding of different dimensions in Thai society.
