In December 2022, the Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR) at Mahidol University joined hands with four esteemed agencies – the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Thailand, and ThaiHealth – to support the implementation of a physical activity promotion drive project for pregnant and postpartum women. This collaboration was marked by the signing of a cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
On June 2, 2023, at the TK Palace Convention Hotel, Mahidol University, IPSR, together with the aforementioned agencies, presented situational data on physical activity among pregnant and postpartum women in Thailand, as well as best practices from research conducted worldwide. The occasion was the 12th Maternal and Child Health Symposium, with the theme “Strong Children Begin with Active Mothers.” Distinguished guests, including Dr. Udom Asawutmangkul, Director of the Division of Physical Activities for Health, Clinical Professor Emeritus Dr. Wittaya Thithapun, President of the Royal Obstetrics and Gynecology Institute of Thailand, and Dr. Pairoj Saonuam, Assistant Manager of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), engaged in a productive exchange and discussion. The symposium was moderated by Ms. Rungrat Palakai, a professional nurse and IPSR student. The seminar witnessed active participation from various central and provincial agencies. Attendees included Mr. Niramon Rasri, Acting Director of the Bureau of Healthy Lifestyle Promotion, Thai Health Promotion Foundation, as well as executives and key personnel from Maternal and Child Health Centers 1-12 and hospitals across the country. Their presence emphasized the significance of the initiative and highlighted the collective effort to implement the guidelines and measures. IPSR remains committed to driving positive changes in promoting physical activity for pregnant and postpartum women in collaboration with our valued partners. Together, we aim to improve the well-being and health outcomes of mothers and children across Thailand.
