A circular economy is essential for achieving sustainable development goals, requiring systemic and structural changes across social, environmental, and economic domains. It optimizes resource use, energy efficiency, waste management, and consumption while minimizing environmental impact. At its core, a circular economy relies on pro-environmental behaviors—actions that benefit the environment, whether intentional or not. This seminar introduces a research proposal titled “Towards a Sustainable Future: Examining Environmental Awareness, Behavioral Engagement, and Circular Economy Adoption Among Malay Muslims in Southern Thailand”. The proposed one-year study, beginning in September 2025, seeks to assess levels of environmental awareness, pro-environmental behavior, and circular economy practices at the individual, household, and community levels in the three southernmost provinces: Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Using a quantitative research approach, the project will explore how Malay Muslims in these provinces engage with circular economy principles, how Islamic teachings influence their environmental behaviors, and how migration experiences shape environmental practices. By administering a structured questionnaire survey, the study will provide generate statistical insights into the complex interplay between cultural, religious, and socio-economic factors and sustainable practices in this unique context.
