Speaker: IPSR SRH Students
Eleven students from the MA program in Population and Sexual and Reproductive Health (International Program) at Mahidol University participated in an academic field trip to Phuket province, Thailand, from December 16 to 20, 2024. The chief objectives of this field trip were to explore community-based advocacy and health services, analyze interventions, examine the interplay of health and culture, and develop research questions.
The key activities consisted of visiting the governmental healthcare facilities such as Phuket Public Health Office, Patong Hospital, and Tambon Karon Health Promoting Hospital, where students observed and analyzed real-world interventions reproductive health, including HIV prevention and control, adolescent reproductive health education, and tailored health services to diverse populations.
During the trip, students also engaged with various organizations and communities, such as Good Shepherd Phuket Town, the Andaman Friendship Association (AFA), the Andaman Powers Association, and the local inhabitants’ community in Baan Laem Tuk Kae. These interactions provided deeper knowledge and insights into strategies for improving health outcomes, education and social equity, especially for marginalized cohorts such as migrant workers’ families, children, adolescents, and the LGBTQ+ community in Phuket Province.
This seminar will highlight how theoretical knowledge gained from the classroom transcript into practical understanding through field observation and engagement. It will also discuss potential research opportunities observed during this visit and their future implications.
