วัตถุประสงค์:
IPSR has recently received funding to seven research projects on childhood overweight and obesity prevention in Thailand. The goal of the projects is to provide an evidence base of policy recommendations to improve effectiveness of childhood overweight and obesity prevention by analyzing potential factors, future trends, progress Thai Government has made including impact and cost-effectiveness of implementing policy interventions, and international best practices.
About the study
Our Childhood Overweight and Obesity Policy Research (COO) project focuses on investigating and informing policy actions that promote healthy lifestyle behaviors for preventing childhood overweight and obesity in Thailand.
To address the complex nature of childhood overweight and obesity challenges, our COO promotes interdisciplinary research priorities, particularly economic, social and environmental fields. This will advance fundamental understanding and to solve problems on overweight and obesity in the country which are beyond the scope of a single discipline or field of research practice.
The COO covers:
- forecasting numbers of overweight and obese children in Thailand (no. 1)
- analyzing individual and environmental factors affecting childhood overweight and obesity and potentially contributing to obesity prevention policies in Thailand (no. 2)
- analyzing impact of school-based and community based interventions for preventing childhood overweight and obesity in Thailand (no. 3)
- analyzing cost-effectiveness of child overweight and obesity prevention interventions in Thailand (no. 4)
- analyzing media landscape and measuring media consumption and media heath literacy (MHL) in Thai children (no. 5)
- analyzing experiences of child overweight and obesity prevention policy interventions outside of Thailand (no. 6)
- assessing childhood overweight and obesity prevention policies in Thailand based on WHO’s Ending Childhood Obesity Committee recommendations (no. 7)
To reach excellence in terms of academic outputs, societal relevance and utility of the research to users and beneficiaries, we also engage governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in the COO activities.
