Child and Adolescent mental health in LMIC: implications for service provision, funding and quality

It is estimated that 75% of adult mental health problems begin before the age of 24. The impact of poor mental health during childhood and adolescence extends poor educational, employment, social and economic outcomes. It is clear that child and adolescent mental health is a vital component to the development of every nation. However, it is largely ignored in policy, legislation and planning. This talk will provide an overview of child and adolescent mental health in low- and middle-income countries. Dr Salisbury will discuss the implications for funding and service delivery using the results of her own research in Europe and Africa.
