On 27 January 2026, the Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR), Mahidol University, in collaboration with international partners, convened a Side Meeting entitled “Financing Active Ageing: The Life-course Approach” as part of the Prince Mahidol Award Conference 2026 (PMAC 2026). The meeting provided a platform for knowledge exchange and policy dialogue on financial preparedness for active ageing across the life course, contributing to the broader conference theme, “Navigating Global Demographic Transition through Innovative Policy: An Equity-Centered Approach” PMAC 2026

The session featured Associate Professor Dr. Chalermpol Chamchan, Director of IPSR, together with Prof. Dr. Sang-Hyop Lee (University of Hawaii at Manoa and Global NTA Network), Prof. Dr. Gretchen Donehower (University of California, Berkeley and Global NTA Network), Dr. Wassana Im-em (UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Office), Dr. Setsuya Fukuda (Senior Researcher, National Institute of Population and Social Security Research – IPSS, Japan), and Dr. Suphannda Laohaichai (Director, Social Data & Indicator Development Division, Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council-NESDC, Thailand). Discussions focused on bridging academic evidence and policymaking by promoting the use of National Transfer Accounts (NTA) and National Time Transfer Accounts (NTTA) to inform policies on social protection, long-term care financing, pension reform, human capital investment, and strategies for financing active ageing through a life-course approach. The session was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Nucharapon Liangruenrom, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, IPSR, and was held at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld.
