IPSR, Mahidol University visits Uttaradit to drive Phase 2 of the Local Food System, aiming to select indicators for sustainable well-being, supported by Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth)

During December 23–24, 2025, the Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR), Mahidol University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Jongjit Rittirong, Project Investigator, together with Dr. Pattraporn Chuenglertsiri and Ms. Pimolpan Nitnara, organized the workshop on “Selection of Indicators for the Local Food System in Thailand (Phase 2)” in Uttaradit Province. The project received funding support from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth)

The main objective of this workshop was to collect in-depth information and mobilize opinions from multiple sectors in order to define indicators that are appropriate to the local context. These indicators will enable local administrative organizations to effectively monitor and evaluate the situation of food systems in their areas, with emphasis on access to safe food, good nutrition, and sustainability of production sources.

The research team conducted activities in the key strategic areas of Uttaradit Province, including:

  1. Khorum Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Phichai District: focusing on linking local agricultural systems with food resource management at the subdistrict level.
  2. Uttaradit Municipality, Mueang Uttaradit District: concentrating on the urban context, market management, and consumer access to safe food.

The selection of indicators in Phase 2 represents a crucial step in the transition from research to practical implementation in the field. The workshop benefited greatly from cooperation with community leaders, local wisdom holders, and representatives from related agencies. The data obtained will be synthesized with information from other parts of the country to develop a comprehensive set of food system indicators for Thailand. This will support ThaiHealth and its partners in planning targeted policy interventions to enhance the health and food security of the Thai population.
