TPAK-IPSR-MU and ThaiHealth Foundation Continue Policy Collaboration to Promote Physical Activity for Pregnant and Postpartum Women in Antenatal Clinics

On July 21, 2025, the Division of Physical Activity for Health, Department of Health, in collaboration with the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Centre (TPAK), Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR), Mahidol University, and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), continued their partnership through a workshop aimed at designing activities and planning strategic approaches to promote physical activity for pregnant and postpartum women in antenatal care (ANC) clinics.

The workshop was attended by maternal and child health officers from all 12 regional health promotion centers, representatives from the Institute for Urban Health Development, the Division of Health Promotion, the Division of Nutrition, the Division of Physical Activity for Health, and health service network representatives across all levels. It was held at Mida Hotel Ngamwongwan, Nonthaburi, with the opening remarks delivered by Deputy Director-General of the Department of Health, Dr. Nongnuch Phattara-a nantanop.

The primary goal of the training was to strategically plan for promoting physical activity among pregnant and postpartum women in ANC clinics for the fiscal year 2025. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyawat Katewongsa, Director of TPAK, presented the current situation and progress in promoting physical activity in this target group. He was joined by TPAK researchers Mr. Danusorn Potharin and Ms. Aunyarat Khanawapee, who served as training speakers.

The workshop also covered the policy significance, key principles, and action plans for promoting physical activity among pregnant women, pregnant women with gestational diabetes or overweight conditions. It also addressed safe physical activity and exercise practices during pregnancy. Key speakers included:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Jiraporn Luangmettakul, Royal Thai College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apichai Wattanapisit, School of Medicine, Walailak University
  • Dr. Nukool Puisoongnoen, Deputy Director, Health Promotion Center Region 9 Nakhon Ratchasima
  • Dr. Chonlachat Arnamnart, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication, Faculty of Sports Science and Technology, Mahidol University

Participants engaged in lectures and collaborative design of operational guidelines for promoting physical activity among pregnant and postpartum women in healthcare settings, with the aim of maximizing health outcomes for the target group.
