TPAK-IPSR-MU Proposes Policy to Government for the Development of a “Lifestyle Database” to Promote Early Childhood Development in Thailand

On July 17, 2025, at Command Building 1, Government House, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyawat Katewongsa, Director of the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Centre (TPAK), Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR), Mahidol University, together with Ms. Aunyarat Khanawapee, presented a policy agenda to develop a “Lifestyle Database” and assess the health status of young children, including physical activity, sedentary behavior and screen use, and sleep, as well as developmental challenges in early childhood.

The proposal was submitted to the Government Policy Taskforce, chaired by Dr.Nahathai Thewphaingarm, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, along with the Data-to-Policy Value Creation Taskforce and representatives from various sectors involved in early childhood development in Thailand. The meeting aimed to consolidate key policy agendas for submission to the Cabinet for consideration and implementation at the national level.

During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyawat emphasized the importance and necessity of developing a database that captures 24-hour lifestyle behavior data of young children, which can be used for analysis and targeted promotion of healthy behaviors. This would result in effective promotion and stimulation of early childhood development.

The meeting expressed strong support for advancing the proposed initiative and encouraged strategic collaboration with relevant agencies to expand its implementation.
