On January 17, 2025, the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Centre (TPAK), Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), organized an online meeting to summarize key learnings and lessons from the implementation of the Whole-of-School Approach to Physical Activity (WoSPA) in 12 prototype schools. This initiative aimed to develop tools and mechanisms to enhance physical activity, reduce sedentary behavior among Thai students, and scale up operations nationwide under the project promoting holistic physical activity in schools (2023–2030).
The session, led by Associate Professor Dr. Piyawat Katewongsa, Director of TPAK, facilitated discussions with school administrators, subject group teachers, and physical education teachers. The dialogue focused on the feasibility of adapting tools to the Thai school context, covering eight key dimensions of physical activity promotion.
The 12 WoSPA model schools, representing regions across Thailand, include: Wat Soi Thong School from Bangkok, Nikhom Bang Rakam 4 School (Bang Rakam Chanupatham) and Wat Pak Ping Tawan Tok School from Phitsanulok, Chum Tabong Kindergarten School from Nakhon Sawan, Wat Rit School (Kham Muen Pathum Anusorn) from Sukhothai, Piyamit Witthaya School from Phayao, Wat Tan Sian School (Sima Rat) from Saraburi, Ban Khwao Khong School from Surin, Ban Nong Khu Witthayakhom School from Chaiyaphum, Ban Nong Pradu School from Kanchanaburi, Si Phon Thong Witthaya School from Nakhon Phanom, and Wat Mai Riang School from Nakhon Si Thammarat. These schools serve as national representatives and pilot sites for advancing the WoSPA initiative, supporting Thailand’s long-term goals for enhancing physical activity among children and youth.
