The 14th International Graduate Students Conference on Population and Public Health Sciences (IGSCPP)

On July 7, 2023, the College of Public Health Sciences at Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the ASEAN Institute for Health Development and the Institute for Population and Social Research at Mahidol University, organized the 14th International Graduate Students Conference on Population and Public Health Sciences (IGSCPP). The conference aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among faculty members, researchers, and students, as well as to promote cooperation in producing graduates and creating new knowledge in the field.

The conference was graced by esteemed guests including Prof. Chitlada Areesantichai, Dean of the College of Public Health Sciences at Chulalongkorn University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thunwadee Suksaroj, Deputy Director for Research and Academic Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chuthamanee Suthisisang , Vice President and Director of the ASEAN Institute for Health Development at Mahidol University; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aree Jampaklay, Director of the Institute for Population and Social Research. They opened the consortium meeting between the three WHOCC institutions at this year’s conference. The conference featured the participation of students from various programs, including the Doctor of Philosophy Program in the Department of Applied Demography and Social Research (International Program), the Master of Arts Program in the Department of Population and Society, and the Master of Arts Program in the Department of Population and Sexual and Reproductive Health (International Program).

These students presented their research results, with a total of 8 presentations held at the Faculty of Science Research Building, 11th floor, Chulalongkorn University.

Oral Presentation

Ms. Khin Hsu Hlaing, topic: Strategies for Coping with Discrimination and Sexual Violence at Work and in the Community of LGBT Myanmar Migrant Workers in Thailand.
Mr. Nadim Reza, topic: Examining the Influence of Sociodemographic Factors and Immediate Risk Factors on the Occurrence of Tuberculosis among Individuals with Diabetes in Bangladesh.
Ms. Tshewang Yeden, topic: Factors Associated with Menstrual Hygiene Practices among Buddhist Nuns in Bhutan.
Ms. Sirirath Ratlerdkarn, topic: Adopting Hormone Therapy for Transgender People within the Healthcare Systems in Thailand: Perspectives of Health Service Providers.
Mrs. Diep The Hoang Tram, topic: Associating Social Factors of Women’s Desire to Have Additional Children in the Two Largest Cities in Vietnam

Poster Presentation

Ms. Theingi Oo, topic: Breaking the Silence: Exploring Perceived Social Norms and Knowledge Regarding Sexual and Reproductive Health among Adolescent Students in Monastic Schools, Myanmar.
Mr. Abbani, Abubakar Yakubu, topic: Socio-Demographic Factors Influencing Men’s Fertility Desires in Northern Nigeria.
Ms. Wanida Sukkun, topic: International Retirement Migration: A Case Study of Long Stay Tourism in Hua Hin, Thailand.

In addition, the lecturers of IPSR, including Associate Professor Dr. Jongjit Rittirong (Chairperson), Assistant Professor Dr. Dusita Phuengsamran (Committee), Associate Professor Dr. Piyawat Katewongsa (Committee), Assistant Professor Dr. Marc Voelker (Committee), and Assistant Professor Dr. Pojjana Hunchangsith (Committee), played a significant role in the conference.

Furthermore, the institute would like to extend its congratulations to Ms. Tshewang Yeden, a student in the Master of Arts in Population and Sexual and Reproductive Health (International Program). She was awarded the Outstanding Oral Presentation for her research on Factors Associated with Menstrual Hygiene Practices among Buddhist Nuns in Bhutan.
