On May 20, 2023, Mr. Panya Chulert, Head of the Research and Development Group at the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Center (TPAK), Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, participated in the 21st MU SAFE SCHOOL VIRTUAL WORKSHOP. The workshop focused on the topic “Only 1/4 of Thai children have sufficient physical activity according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization.” During his presentation, Mr. Panya Chulert introduced the concept of promoting physical activities in a systematic manner using the 4PC approach: Active Policy, Active Classroom, Active People, Active Place, and Active Program. This approach aims to increase physical activity among children, reduce sedentary behavior both inside and outside the classroom, and stimulate the overall development of children across all five dimensions. The workshop addressed the challenge faced by teachers in encouraging children to engage in various physical activities, such as movement, exertion, running, playing, exercising, participating in sports, and incorporating muscle-strengthening, bone-strengthening, and stretching exercises at least three days a week for 30 minutes per day.
