The Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, continues to advance the research project “Local Food Systems in Thailand, Phase 2”, supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), with the aim of strengthening food systems at the local level.
The project is led by Associate Professor Dr. Jongjit Rittirong, Deputy Director for Research and Project Investigator, together with the research team comprising Dr. Pattraporn Chuenglertsiri and Ms. Pimolpan Nitnara.
During January 20–21, 2026, the project organized workshops to select local food system indicators for the Sampran Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Sampran District, and the Salaya Subdistrict Municipality, Phutthamonthon District, Nakhon Pathom Province. The objective was to jointly develop a comprehensive set of indicators reflecting local food system conditions, covering food security, food safety, environmental sustainability, and quality of life.
The meeting was conducted with strong collaboration from provincial food committees and relevant agencies, fostering constructive exchanges that linked academic knowledge with local government operations. This ensured that the indicators can be practically applied in planning, policymaking, and monitoring and evaluation of local food system development.
The project emphasizes the use of evidence-based data alongside stakeholder participation to drive safe, sustainable, and community-responsive local food systems, ultimately contributing to improved quality of life and long-term national food security.
