The NUS–Lancet PRIME Commission Meeting at Shaw Foundation Alumni House, Singapore

Between January 15–17, 2026, Dr. Viroj Tangcharoensathien led a research team from the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the International Health Policy Program (IHPP), to present research findings titled: “Landscape Analysis of Pandemic Preparedness, Prevention, and Response in Thailand: A Country Case Study from Inclusiveness and Equity Perspectives”

The presentation was delivered at The NUS–Lancet PRIME Commission Meeting, held at Shaw Foundation Alumni House, National University of Singapore, Singapore.

The research team included Associate Professor Dr. Jongjit Rittirong, Deputy Director for Research, and Associate Professor Dr. Bhubate Samutachak, Chair of the Ph.D. Program in Applied Demography and Social Research (International Program), Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, together with Dr. Naroeporn Nopwinyoowong from the International Health Policy Program (IHPP).

This international academic forum brought together country representatives and scholars from nearly 20 countries across all continents to exchange lessons learned and policy recommendations on Pandemic Preparedness, Prevention, and Response (PPPR), with a strong emphasis on inclusiveness and equity.

The Thailand case study collected qualitative data from health policy stakeholders and administrators during the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside voices from vulnerable populations, particularly four groups of persons with disabilities, in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, during January 7–9, 2026, namely:

  1. Persons with visual impairments
  2. Persons with hearing impairments
  3. Persons with physical or mobility impairments
  4. Persons with intellectual or psychosocial disabilities

The findings highlighted gaps, challenges, and structural factors affecting access to information, public health measures, and essential services for persons with disabilities during pandemic crises. The study also proposed policy recommendations to strengthen Thailand’s PPPR system toward greater inclusiveness and equity, offering important lessons that can be further applied at regional and global levels.
