IPSR Mahidol University Visits Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to Learn Best Practices in Advancing the SDGs in Higher Education

On 26 August 2025, a delegation from the Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR), Mahidol University, comprising the Asst. Prof. Dusita Phuengsamran, Deputy Director for International Relations and Organization Communication, Asst. Prof. Nucharapon Liangruenrom, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, Program Chair and faculty members, program officers for Master’s and Doctoral programs, Information Technology Officer, and Planning & Policy Officer visited Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia, to study best practices in integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into higher education.

During the visit, USM shared its experiences and initiatives under the Kampus Sejahtera model, which positions the entire university as a “Living Lab” for sustainability. This approach integrates environmental management, social well-being, health promotion, and innovative teaching into campus life.

The discussions also highlighted USM’s governance structure for sustainability, mechanisms for student and community engagement, evidence-based monitoring through centralized data systems, and strategies for communicating institutional impact on the global stage, including through the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

This study visit marks an important step for IPSR in adapting USM’s lessons to enhance its research, teaching, and community engagement in alignment with the SDGs. It reinforces IPSR’s commitment to advancing Mahidol University’s role as a regional hub of knowledge and innovation for sustainable development.
