From July 12–17, 2025, a research team from the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, including Emeritus Professor Dr. Churnrurtai Kanchanachitra, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jongjit Rittirong, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manasigan Kanchanachitra, and Ms. Jeerapa Sosom, conducted a field visit to Arokayasala, Wat Kampramong, Phanna Nikhom District, Sakon Nakhon Province, as part of the research project “Lessons Learned and Operational Review of Palliative Care Services.”
This project aims to extract key lessons from the holistic approach to end-of-life care practiced at the site, encompassing philosophical foundations, management systems, physical and emotional care, and the active involvement of the community and temple. It also seeks to analyze the success factors and explore scalability to other areas.
Palliative care plays a vital role in Thai society as it transitions into an aging society. It helps improve the quality of life for terminally ill patients, reduces physical and emotional suffering, and promotes a peaceful and dignified passing.
This project marks an important step in developing a model that aligns with both the Thai health system and cultural values.
