On April 4–5, 2025, at the Charanyanon Meeting Room, Surin Provincial Education Office, the implementation support team of the Thailand Zero Dropout initiative and the mechanism and database development team for area-based education management (Send Smile Team), from the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Surin Provincial Education Office and the Equitable Education Fund (EEF), organized a meeting to advance the Thailand Zero Dropout policy aimed at resolving the issue of children and youth falling out of the education system in Surin Province. The meeting was honored by the presence of Mr. Wasan Chingchana, Deputy Governor of Surin Province, who served as the meeting’s chair.
The objectives of this meeting were to present the background and significance of the Thailand Zero Dropout policy by Mr. It Pakkanthorn, Director of the Area-based Education Management Office, EEF, and to report and monitor the progress of the initiative in Surin Province by Dr. Thanyalak Chansri, Deputy Education Commissioner of Surin Province. A workshop was also conducted on the use of the Thailand Zero Dropout Information System, an essential tool for identifying and tracking children who are out of the education system, targeting district-level administrators in Surin Province. The workshop was led by the Send Smile Team.
Participants in the meeting and training included the provincial-level committee driving the Thailand Zero Dropout initiative and district-level system administrators from all 17 districts of Surin Province.
In addition, the team conducted a site visit to observe the implementation of the initiative in the pilot area of Nong Sanit Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Chom Phra District, Surin Province. Participants in the study visit included mayors of all subdistrict administrative organizations in Chom Phra District and educational personnel from relevant agencies in the province.
