SAKURA Science Exchange Program

IPSR is proud to have participated in the SAKURA Science Exchange Program for the 12th consecutive year. This year’s program took place from 3–12 March 2025 in Hokkaido, Japan, under the theme “Collaborative Research and Education on Global Health – Towards Sustainable Health with the Concept of Society 5.0,” hosted by the Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine and supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency.

Representing IPSR, our PhD students Ms. Nitchakarn Kaewbuadee and Ms. Pennapa Saenkla took part in this exchange program, sharing their research on Childlessness among Women in Thailand and Resilience in Adolescents with Mental Health Issues. They also collaborated with fellow student representatives from Japan and Bhutan to co-present a joint project titled “Towards Inclusive and Healthy Aging Community in Bhutan, Japan, and Thailand” during the closing symposium “Towards a Sustainable Healthy Society with the Concept of Society 5.0,” organized by all participants.

We are also pleased to share that Asst. Prof. Dr.Dusita Phuengsamran from IPSR served as one of the program facilitators, giving a presentation on “Bridging Research and Practice – Understanding Vulnerabilities in Selected Sub-Populations.” In addition, we were delighted to see our PhD program alumni Mr. Abubakar Abbani Yakubu from Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria returns as a facilitator, leading a session on aging populations.

This year’s program welcomed 12 participants and 4 facilitators from 9 universities across 8 countries, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and international collaboration in addressing global health challenges.

We are grateful for this continued opportunity to engage with global partners and contribute to meaningful dialogue on health and sustainability.
