From March 3 – 6, 2025, the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Centre (TPAK), Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyawat Katewongsa, Asst. Prof. Dr. Dyah Anantalia Widyastari, Dr. Piyakrita Kaewpikul, and the data collection team, conducted a pilot study in Phitsanulok Province to test the effectiveness of the Global Adolescent and Child Physical Activity Questionnaire (GAC-PAQ) in an application format. This initiative is part of a global project aimed at developing a standardized research tool for assessing physical activity in children and adolescents aged 8-17 years.
The GAC-PAQ project is a collaboration between Thailand, Canada, and 14 other countries across six continents. The transition to an application-based format enhances data collection by leveraging familiar digital technologies, such as smartphones and tablets, making it more accessible and user-friendly. Features such as voice-over functionality also provide greater accessibility for participants with reading difficulties or disabilities.
The pilot study took place in cooperation with four schools in Phitsanulok Province: Nikhom Bang Rakam 4 School (Bang Rakam Chanupatham), Chumsaeng Songkhram Udonkanarak Upatham School, Ban Plak Raet School, and Wat Pak Ping Tawan Tok School. A total of 34 student-parent pairs participated, contributing valuable insights to refine the application before its official implementation. TPACK extends its gratitude to all schools and participants for their cooperation. Their involvement plays a crucial role in ensuring that the GAC-PAQ questionnaire becomes a reliable, standardized tool for assessing physical activity in children and youth worldwide.
