TPAK Mahidol University and ThaiHealth Collaborate to Promote the “Jumping and Dancing for 60 Minutes” Policy for Thai Children’s Growth and Well-Being

On February 4, 2025, the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Centre (TPAK), Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), jointly promoted the “Jumping and Dancing for 60 Minutes” policy aimed at enhancing Thai children’s physical development—ensuring they grow tall, well-proportioned, and strong.

The event was honored by Dr. Amporn Benjaponpitak, Director-General of the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, who delegated Dr. Nongnuch Phataranantanop, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Health, to preside over the opening ceremony. Representatives from key partner organizations demonstrated their commitment to policy implementation, including the Office of the Basic Education Commission, Office of the Private Education Commission, Office of the Vocational Education Commission, Department of Local Administration Promotion, Border Patrol Police Bureau, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Department of Physical Education, Public Relations Department, and TPAK, in collaboration with ThaiHealth. The event was held at Wat khemapirataram School, Nonthaburi Province.

To support this initiative, the Department of Health introduced the 10-20-30-minute guideline for educational institutions: 10 minutes of daily exercise in front of the flagpole, 20 minutes of jumping activities such as rope skipping or clap jumping, and 30 minutes of free-choice exercise to ensure adequate movement throughout the day. Additionally, adequate sleep such as going to bed before 9 p.m. is strongly encouraged to support the natural secretion of growth hormones, fostering optimal growth and overall health.

Given the impact of PM2.5 air pollution, the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Health recommended following the “1 Check, 3 Changes, 1 Assessment” principle for safe exercise: 1 Check: Monitor air quality before exercising, 3 Changes: Adjust the exercise schedule to the afternoon or evening, move activities indoors, or switch to light exercise., and 1 Assessment: Observe any signs of discomfort such as coughing, difficulty breathing, or chest tightness, if symptoms occur, stop immediately.
