Meeting to discuss collaboration on developing research projects related to global climate change and population health

On August 23, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chalermpol Chamchan, Director of the Institute for Population and Social Research at Mahidol University, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Dusita Phuengsamran, Deputy Director for International Relations and Organization Communication, welcomed Prof. Sandra Barteit from the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine at Heidelberg University, Germany. They met to discuss cooperation in developing research projects on global climate change and population health, particularly in monitoring population and health changes under the Kanchanaburi project of the Institute for Population and Social Research. This collaboration aims to expand the research network with the South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO), School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University (Malaysia Campus), and other countries in Africa.

Prof. Sandra Barteit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sureeporn Punpuing, Asst. Prof. Dr. Malee Sunpuwan, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marc Voelker visited the area to study initial data and the environmental situation of the community, including the impact of rising temperatures on health and community adaptation. Their visit included Wang Krachae Village, Sai Yok District, and Nam Kui Village, Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province, from August 22-23, 2024.
