On May 2, 2024, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation organized a training for leaders to promote physical activity for children in the community, known as the ‘Active Kids Summer Camp,’ targeting leading schools in Nakhon Phanom Province. The event was honored by Mr. Wiwat Vikrantanoros, former Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, and experts from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation who presided over the opening ceremony. Mr. Niramon Rasi, Director of the Office of Healthy Lifestyle Promotion (Office 5), provided insights into the origins and goals of the event. Dr.Pairoj Saonuam, Deputy Manager of the Health Promotion Foundation, elucidated the role of the organization in promoting public health. Asst.Prof. Dr. Areekul Amornsriwatanakul, a lecturer at the College of Sports Science and Technology, Mahidol University, delivered a lecture on strategies to promote physical activity for children and youth in Thailand, emphasizing the importance and current situation of physical activity among children.
Mr. Panya Chulert, Head of the Research and Development Group, along with a research team from the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Centre (TPAK) at the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, participated as speakers. They discussed Thai and Japanese play activities that contribute to promoting adequate physical activity among Thai children, fostering skills and development appropriate for the Active Child Program (THAI-ACP). Their aim was to provide knowledge and understanding to leading teachers about the importance of ACP concepts and practices for trainers, experimenting with ACP activities, and applying concepts within the Thai context. Additionally, they showcased various activities to demonstrate the application of ACP concepts in promoting physical activity for children. Furthermore, models and methods for evaluating active activities were presented, along with tools to assess physical activity behavior and physical literacy related to appropriate development for Thai children and youth. These resources are intended for teachers to develop or adjust existing teaching plans, particularly to enhance activities in physical education.
