Meeting on the cooperation project Development and validation of an application-based questionnaire for measuring physical activity in children and youth: a 14-country study across six continents

On June 12-13, 2023, in Uppsala, Sweden, Associate Professor Dr. Piyawat Ketwongsa and Dr. Dyah Anantalia Widyastari, a lecturer at the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, along with Ms. Nattaporn Nilwatta from the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Center (TPAK), attended a research project meeting. The project is titled “Development and Quality Validation of an Application-Based Questionnaire for Measuring Physical Activity in Children and Youth: A Study in 14 Countries on Six Continents.” The participating countries include Thailand, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, India, Malawi, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Spain, Sweden, and the United Arab Emirates. This research project involves international collaboration to develop and assess the quality and validity of an application-based questionnaire for measuring physical activity in children and youth worldwide.

Currently, there is a lack of standardized questionnaires that can measure physical activity levels across different dimensions in this age group. Therefore, it is important to develop a culturally sensitive questionnaire that can facilitate the comparison of physical activity availability between countries. The meeting aimed to discuss the preliminary results of the Cognitive Interview process conducted in each country and to plan the next steps for implementing the project and improving the questionnaire.
