Many risk factors in Thailand need to be adjusted” from the academic presentation “Expectations, Preparedness and access to social services for powerful aging” on June 14, 2022 at Grand Mercure Bangkok Fortune , co-organized by National Research Council of Thailand – NRCT in collaboration with the Foundation of Foundation of Thai Gerontology Research and Development Institute (TGRI), Thailand National Health Foundation (NHF) and the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jongjit Rittirong presented on the topic “Expectations, planning and preparation of working-age populations of different ages and living patterns towards life in the elderly” There are several interesting findings, for example 1) Awareness of an aging society in Thailand was found that 28% or 1 in 4 of the respondents were not aware of the situation of aging society; 72% know that Thailand has entered an aging society, 35% know that Thais will live longer between the ages of 90-100, and 1 in 4 or 25% think the initial age of the elderly should be 65 years or older. 2) There were differences in expectations to work to generate income: while Generation X people wanted to continue working after 60, Generation Z wanted to stop working before 60. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suthida Chuanwan presented the topic “Access to social service system among the pre-elderly and elderly households with different living styles to lead to appropriate service support guidelines,” which found that “the number of people living alone or the tendency to be alone is increasing.” However, in rural societies, the elderly are often not alone because there are still children and relatives nearby in the neighborhood.
