Global Health during the Time of Covid-19

Abstact

Covid-19 is the pandemic in the century that the world has experienced hitting developed nations with advanced healthcare systems the hardest. This contrasts previous pandemics that were mostly limited to certain areas in developing countries. The measures that most countries response to the pandemic are more independent and based on self-interest. The measures include travel restrictions, restricted exports of medical supplies and medicines (83 countries are reported to have export control). The self-interest driven measures undermine global cooperation that is the underlining feature of global health.

This Wednesday seminar will discuss the issue related to shortage of medical supplies and medicine and measures countries have implemented to increase access to needed medical supplies. These measures include compulsory licensing and export restriction. This seminar will also discuss about the global movement on Technology Intellectual Property Pool (TIPP) to guarantee universal and equitable access to Covid-19-related medical technology….
