This nationally representative baseline household study focuses on surveying behaviors and individual and environmental influences of Thai children and adults on fruit and vegetable consumption. A total of approximately 8,000 Thais from 3,720 households were surveyed. This baseline information will help stakeholders to gain deeper understanding of fruit and vegetable eating behaviors and related factors in Thais, and guide their decision making for appropriate action planning.

About the study

This Fruit and Vegetable Eating Behavior study (FVEB), launched by IPSR, is a nationally representative, comprehensive, longitudinal survey that is intended to serve research needs on fruit and vegetable eating behaviors and related factors among children, adolescents, adults and older people in Thailand.

The FVEB is designed to collect individual and family-level longitudinal data. The study focuses on behaviors and related individual and environmental factors in the Thai population. The baseline FVEB survey in 2018 successfully interviewed 3,720 households and 7,957 individuals living in these households. The second wave of the FVEB is expected to be carried out in 2019.

The FVEB’s baseline findings track fruit and vegetable consumption trends, identify emerging factors that may be related to sufficiency of fruit and vegetable consumption, detect people’s perception and support of policies, projects and programs for promoting fruit and vegetable consumption, and inform policy and intervention strategies.

The FVEB seeks to provide the academic community with the policy-relevant and on-demand data to date on Thailand. It also provides platform for interaction among health and non-health stakeholders, academic people and NGOs to discuss and ensure valid and transferable findings and use of the results to improve existing policies and implementation.
