Field Trip in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand

Abstract

The field trip in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand was conducted on 18 and 19 December 2017. There were several institutions successfully visited including governmental institutions and NGOs. The following is brief description of the institutions:
 
           1.Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Health Office
 
Ubon Rachathani Provincial Health Office is located in Northeastern part of Thailand. There are 1.8 million of total population and it can be seen that aging population is increasing based on the population pyramid. From 2007 to 2015, the birth rate decreased and mortality rate remained stable. Moreover, the number of single people also increased. Both migrants and Thai people can use health access together such as sharing ambulance and can choose private hospital.
 
           2.The Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand (PPAT)
 
PPAT is a non governmental organisation, member of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). PPAT clinic in Ubon Ratchatani Province is one of the PPAT clinic in Thailand. The main activity of PPAT is family planning, AIDS prevention, and Maternal and child health. Services given in this clinis emphasize the client needs and without discrimination. 
 
           3.Rainbow Sky Association
 
Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand is a non-profit organization working to empower and build capacity of LGBT community. This organization was first established in 1999 under the name of Rainbow Sky Club. In 2003, this organization has successfully registered as Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand under Ministry of Culture. With the main vision to be a community organization working with LGBT people, Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand have conducted four main activities to promote and empower the right of LGBT people in the community such as Reach to the Test, Outreach activity, Test and Treat, join special event to promote and provide sexual health education to LGBT people.
 
           4.Khemarat Community Hospital
 
Khemarat Community Hospital provides the services in Thai-Lao Border. In this community hospital, we learned about reproductive health services which for both Thais and Loa people. Khemarat community hospital provides both curative and  health promotion services. As health promotion services, daily open out-patient department for family planning services, ANC, PNC and Newborn care services and also provides Ca cervix screening services and immunization services for infant.  In addition, hospital provides normal labour services for pregnant women, ART services, TB services, Teen services and aging program services also. Finally, we learned about referral system with other hospitals and between Thai and Lao for HIV patient as well.
 
           5. Health and Share Foundation
 
The Health and Share Foundation was established 30 years ago by Japanese doctor and nurse since they found the HIV cases and many of people had negative attitude toward HIV. This NGO works with key and vulnerable population which aims to improve the knowledge of HIV and other reproductive health information and provide the social support to increase the uptake of health care services.
