On April 25, 2025, the Thai Population Association, represented by the College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, organized The 2025 National Population Conference. The event was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Pataporn Sukontamarn, Acting President of the Thai Population Association, who delivered the opening address, and Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, former Minister of Digital Economy and Society and former Minister of Science and Technology, who delivered the lecture. Professor Dr. Wisit Prachuapmoh Foundation gave the lecture on the topic “AI and the Direction of Thai Population Development.” Academic seminars were also held, featuring distinguished experts including Professor Dr. Rungsun Rerknimitr, Assistant to the President for Innovation, Chulalongkorn University, Dr. Sanparith Marukatat, Researcher, Image Processing and Understanding Research Team, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), and Dr. Chanwit Boonchuay, President of the Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneurs Association of Thailand (AIEAT) and CEO of Synapse (Thailand) Co., Ltd., who discussed “AI and Population Development: Opportunities and Threats.” The session was hosted by Associate Professor Dr. Bhubate Samutachak, Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University.
This year, researchers presented a total of 31 articles on various population issues. The Institute for Population and Social Research, led by Professor Dr. Patama Vapattanawong, presented on “Comparison of the Burden of Caring for the Elderly with Visual and Hearing Impairments.” Ms. Chanipa Eiamcharoen, a Ph.D. student in Population and Social Research (Thai Program), presented on “The Influence of Being Transgender and Having Multiple Identities on Service Demand” and received an outstanding presentation award. In addition, lecturers from the Institute participated as reviewers and judges, including Professor Dr. Sureeporn Punpuing, Associate Professor Dr. Chalermpol Chamchan, Associate Professor Dr. Aree Jampaklay, Associate Professor Dr. Sutthida Chuanwan, Associate Professor Dr. Jongjit Rittirong, and Lecturer Dr. Truc Ngoc Hoang Dang. Emeritus Professor Dr. Pramote Prasartkul served as an advisor to the Thai Population Association, and Associate Professor Dr. Piyawat Katewongsa served as a committee member.
Following the conference, the Thai Population Association held its annual general meeting, elected the new association committee, and presented awards to outstanding presenters. The event was attended by more than 120 participants at the Mandarin Hotel, Bangkok (Samyan). Throughout the event, Assistant Professor Dr. Chadatan Osatis and Mr. Jintathat Chaiyapak from the College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University, served as the hosts.
